Neck & Shoulder Pain

NECK

Neck pain can present itself in a variety of ways, but is the source of some of our most challenging aches.  The most common reason for muscle discomfort is overuse, minor injuries, or stress. Even if the discomfort you are feeling is mild, it is important to check in with a medical professional to make sure there are no underlying issues that could make your muscle discomfort worse.

Torticollis

Torticollis is a painful condition that is identified by spasms or misalignment of the neck muscles. If left untreated, torticollis can be extremely painful and lead to neck and posture problems.

Subluxation

Subluxation occurs in the neck when there is a slight misalignment in the vertebrae. Although easily fixed with chiropractic adjustments, subluxation can cause severe pain and posture problems if left untreated.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is caused when the nerves or blood vessels between your collarbone and your thoracic outlet are compressed, causing either numbness or pain in your neck, arms, or hands.

SHOULDER

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen Shoulder Syndrome, or adhesive capsulitis, involves a moderate to severe stiffness or pain in your shoulder. Frozen Shoulder Syndrome is caused by swelling of the tissue surrounding the shoulder joint. Although Frozen Shoulder Syndrome can resolve itself over the course of 12-18 months, seeing our team at Vert can get you feeling better in no time.

Rotator Cuff Injuries

The most common rotator cuff injury is a rotator cuff tear. This occurs when someone does the same motion repeatedly over time. Rotator cuff injuries can be identified by clicking or popping noises that happen as you move your arm. Depending on the severity, rotator cuff issues can be treated by arm slings, steroid injections to ease swelling and pain, and physical therapy.

Shoulder Bursitis

Shoulder bursitis issues occur when the bursae, or the fluid-filled sacs in your shoulder, are inflamed. Shoulder bursitis can be painful and is most often caused by overuse. Depending on the severity, shoulder bursitis can be treated by icing, splints, steroid injections to ease pain and swelling, and physical therapy.

Shoulder Tendonitis

Shoulder tendonitis is the swelling of the tissue or tendons that connect the bones and muscles in your shoulder. Common side effects of shoulder tendonitis are stiffness, pain, and immobility of your arm or shoulder. Shoulder tendonitis can easily be treated with physical therapy, rest, and steroid injections if needed for pain and swelling.

Shoulder Tendinosis

Shoulder tendinosis refers to the degeneration or deterioration of your rotator cuff and shoulder tissue. Common causes of shoulder tendinosis are age, overuse, and genetics. Although age plays a major factor in the health of your rotator cuff tissue, shoulder tendinosis can be helped with physical therapy, activity modification, and steroid injections if needed.
