Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Me?
Before becoming a doctor of chiropractic care, I was intimidated about seeing one myself. Want to know why? Honestly, I was afraid they might accidentally break my neck. Even now when I see videos online of the jerky adjustments and it gives me anxiety. But, there are many techniques that a chiropractor can use, and care that looks like it may snap your neck isn’t exactly a necessity. Our goal at Vert Chiropractic is to provide the best non-invasive treatment so that we can eliminate the fear of going to the chiropractor and focus on getting you aligned.
What is the chiropractic crack?
It’s the sound made during the release of gas that has built up between the joints. It actually has nothing to do with the misalignment itself, but is more just an effect of this type of invasive adjustment. Have you seen the videos I mentioned in the last paragraph? The twisting and turning that you see there -- also not necessary. That’s because an adjustment can only move any alignment just 1 to 2 tiny millimeters, so matter what strength or force is used.
So why do some Chiropractors work this way?
It’s possible the answer lies within their education - perhaps the rough cracking and jerking are the only methods they’ve learned. Another answer is that some chiropractors probably use this method as a marketing technique. They make it appear as if the power they put behind those adjustments will be more effective than a lighter adjustment. But, we know that is a myth. However, it certainly appeals to a specific clientele that believes the “pop” way is the only way.
What about Vert Chiropractic?
Instead of following this invasive model, Vert Chiropractic has chosen to always treat our patients with non-invasive techniques and modalities. As a result of this, our Greenville patients leave our table feeling more refreshed, are less prone to treatment related inflammation, and have easier, less anxious chiropractic appointments.
In conclusion, no, you don't need to fear chiropractic care, and there are many doctors out there who try to avoid the crack as much as possible to help give you a better experience. If you enjoy the crack, all I ask is to do your research (and notice how these social media doctors are adjusting every patient the exact same way regardless of their individual needs) and don’t JUST chase the pop.
